Spa 08 KTM RC8

KTM RC8 trying to overtake my GSXR1000K5.
Look out for the falling rider on the right hander into Stavelot. It was the KTM that must have put him off !

Hi Nestoridis. I agree with you. The stability and braking of the KTM are awesome, plus he is a better rider than me. It does beg the question though, why would a better rider spend more money on a bike that makes him slower than a poorer rider on a cheaper bike?

We went to Spa again last month and I was concentrating on increasing my corner speed. Managed to take 10 seconds off my lap time so I think he would need the RC8R now :-)

Are you racing or is it just open track days you do? If it's just open track days why does it matter if he is a better rider but his bike isn't as fast? It's not a competition is it, it's about enjoying yourself and trying to improve your own riding. I used to have a zx12r and I sold it and got an RC8, much less hp and top end speed but much better to ride and a more enjoyable experience. It's comparable in performace to a gixer 750 really.

It was just a trackday and it is all about having fun. The KTM is a better track bike than the K5 and the KTM rider was better than me. But the power of the K5 makes up for my defficiencies and makes it quicker around the track. I have since spoken with the rider of the KTM and he really enjoyed the challenge. As it was a rear facing camera I did not realize how hard he had been trying until I watched the video.

K5 Gixxer needs to keep his RPMs up. Too much coasting thru corners.

The rider on the GSXR with the phenomenal straight line rush

or

the KTM rider who could catch a slightly poorer rider on a better bike.

Give me the slower bike and chase down the posers anyday

The GSXR is capable of much more. The rider here obviously isn't terribly good at cornering.

Not that I'm defending GSXRs. They're made out of cheese. Particularly the 05' thou.

@loopyonek5 The GSXR is just way to fast for the KTM.. I have a 2010 RC8R and I love it, but you can't get past the V-Twin feeling, its hard to match speed at 10k rpm with a four cylinder bike. But for what I use it for, Mainly street and Mountain fun, its awesome. But all it takes is a strait-a-way head to head with a four cylinder to humble me... Nice video BTW, I wish I could ride half as well is either one of you.. Cheers..
