Not to seem rude or snide, but I must say that deep frying *live* animals would be more gross. :)

You do realize how moronic that is, right? Not only will you not put out the flames, but the oil will cover your pool and continue to burn, turning a small file into a rather large one. You'd be better off having an appropriate fire extinguisher and baking soda handy to smother the flames.

if you have a swimming pool, set your fryer on the pooldeck next to your pool, because if it catch on fire like this, you take the pole and push it in the pool.

Proper and ethical engineering design considers all reasonably foreseeable hazards. It would be easy to imagine someone dropping a frozen or improperly thawed turkey in by mistake, or opning a vat of overheated oil. The lack of thermostat, safety valve and the unstable base are inexcusable.
