Nearly a thousand telephone workers from throughout Massachusetts marched on Verizon's New England headquarters in Boston on August 2 to rally for good jobs and reliable services.

"Next year's collective bargaining offers telephone workers our best chance to refocus management on making Verizon work for everyone: customers, employees and investors alike," said Myles Calvey, a 39-year splice service technician and Business Manager of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2222.

"Winning an agreement that preserves good jobs, quality health care and secure pension benefits will take unprecedented membership involvement and unity," added Calvey, who also chairs the New England telephone workers' bargaining committee. "All members need to get ready now." The current agreement covering about 70,000 employees with Verizon East expires on August 2, 2008.

  • So Mr. Capitalism let's hear how you treat your employees.

  • Union worker= overpaid, underskilled, lazy communist

  • Unions will be crushed in the end! There will come another Reagan era

  • i'll tell you what 'Verizon certainly dosn't give a crap about me or any other of my union brothers and sisters. For that matter they don't even give a crap about their first line managers either.you must be one of those who believes all hourly employees should get low pay and no health benefits. All so . the executives get more bonuses from bigger profits. if that's how you run a business you'll have a high turnover rate of unmotivated people. Good luck with that.

  • So union is the way to go. Verizon is doing the smart thing, they are dumping all you union guys so they can run more efficiently. Love how Verizon Business got pushed into the union. They absolutely hate it. Wow, great health insurance what good is that when you get laid off. If you think your union gives a crap about you, you are out of your mind. You just another union hack that doesn't know anything about business. Keep buying the propaganda, you all are going to be unemployed.

  • You must be a Verizon executive or for that matter a Walmart executive or you own your own business. So let me guess you probably think all hourly employees should get paid dirt and also pay in full for their medical benefits so you can make a bigger profit. The rich get richer off the backs of the hourly employee. Screw You.

  • handed to them?CWA AND IBEW built the phone company. My union brothers and sisters both past and present have worked hard to make NY Tel,NYNEX, Bell Atlantic and Verizon billions in profits Union workers stand together to get a decent wage and medical benefits. You private contractors go around trying to under bid each other to get work. So what you try to do is to make less money for yourself. You keep selling yourself short and work 70 hours per week to make ends meet.

  • What a bunch of idiots. How stupid is the lady with the Amy Winehouse song. That's what unions are about putting retards in power, that feel everything should be handed to them

  • Screw the union!Unions stand in the way for pure capitalism LOL

  • I work for a CLEC, One Communications. I work in our repair group that deals with LEC circuit dispatches. Ever since to the move to Fairpoint in the NE area, the field tech we talk to sound different....Proud. Thank you for dealing with us from here on out....Even though we bought you out in areas years ago.
