  • am i missing something? i am an old school drummer. why does it appear that all drummers under 30 sound the same (super fast, the only fills are single open rolls, no rudiments, no melodic components). and all of it is done with seemingly no physical effort whatsoever. heck , john bohnam, art blakey, tony williams, charlie watts, louie bellson, would see this video and wonder how does this kid play so fast? i am not hating, this kid is incredible. hats off to you.

  • @thad99 you gotta understand that drumming is constantly evolving just like everything else. I agree with you though about the lack of rudiments and loss of art. You're a dying breed unfortunately.

  • @thad99 Its the style thats popular right now. In the same way melodic drum solos were popular in the 70's tanks to Cobham, Gadd, and Williams. Death metal drumming and technical metal drumming are supposed to be this way, especially if you hear the music that accompanies it. What your referring to is a whole completely different genre.

Also a "kid these days" who is possibly one of the best drummers in the world: Tony Royster Jr.

  • @thad99 its all about genre....

  • @tribaldrummergod well it's a "death metal drum vid" lol.

  • excellent!

  • @thad99 I guess the rudiments and complicated dynamic drumming is missing the coolfactor nowadays. It takes alot more to apreciate it me thinks. Thats why all young folkd tend to go for speed for the easiest way to impress people. Also alot of popular music uses these kind of beats, whilst in earlier days it was more influenced by jazz. You do make a good point about all drummers sounding the same tho, its a shame really but gaining speed often means simplifying your rolls. Just my 2 cents ;).

  • @thad99 yeah drumming is definitely not what it used to be, us metal drummers at the forefront of creating these new styles, and not to mention all the gear we use is upgraded. With longboard pedals, rack mounting systems, and crazy amounts of cymbals and heads with ridiculous bounce. and triggers, lets not forget triggers.

  • Generic and boring

  • @biocideband its triggers

  • toms sound sooo good
