I saw the headline, "Just One More Vote Needed for Marriage Equality in Washington" yesterday. I started writing a quick, simple song with my thoughts.
Lyrics:
I don't need one more vote
to tell me what I already know.
And I won't breathe a sigh of relief
when you sign your name.
No stamp of your approval
is needed here by me.
It may take another 50 years
before we can laugh this all off,
but somehow I'm thinking that
your days are a little more numbered than that.
I hope you like the museum,
we've got a nice shelf picked out just for you,
with the dinosaurs and the civil wars and all the "haven't we been here before"s.
No, that's not to say we wouldn't love you on our side,
we just never needed your permission to love.
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's nice that you're coming around, but isn't it kind of time? I mean, it's 2012 already and my generation is already over this and besides, don't we have bigger things to worry about like... curing cancer, or global warming, or what's for dinner? Anyway...
