It's not the Grand Place... it's the 'Oude Markt' which translates as 'Old Market'.  The 'Grote Markt' (Grand Place) is near though.

What do you mean with safe? It's really safe i think, i live in Leuven and it's a beautiful safe city.

we stayed in all over belgium for about 8 days, safe everywhere, didn't have any problems at all.
