thanks this is pretty helpful. Do you know if the work time of the resin can be extended if its a bit chilled when you mix it?

@etheangel2220 i would NOT suggest chilling it, because that will interfere with the chemical reaction. I would actually suggest heating it up a bit, because then the reaction will be faster and it will have a result with less bubbles. <3

This is amazing!! I was looking through your site and thinking I wish I had a way to ask how you made your sailor moon broaches and tada!! You have such amazing skill, your SM costume is THE GREATEST. But I'm sure you know that! ^^ I'm just getting back into cosplaying and am teaching myself how to sew slash do everything else. Quick q, how did you make the rest of the broach after the resin? Did you make/paint the sculpy and then cast it in the resin? Thanks for the tut!!

You cast the resin and after it dries and you take it out, you paint the back of it. I then added foam wings to the sides, and I painted them and around the heart gold. I finished it by dumping a high gloss resin on top of it all

Thank you for this. I have had some of this stuff and i decided to make my cousin graduation gift using this. I did a test run last night and its still very tacky and soft. This helps so much tho Thanks!

try heating up the resin more. It should be the consistency of water, and make sure you get an exactly equal amount. Sorry for the late reply

Thanks for the tutorial! I made a mold myself from a glass cabochon, but when the resin comes out, its not as shiny as the cabochon, the side that was in the mold is a bit hazy.. I tried to polish it with fine sandpaper but it's even more messed up now.. What would you suggest?

this is probably the best tutorial i have seen on how to make resin charms. if i want to put a sticker in the resin, i would pour a little plain resin in the mold first (so its translucent), let it sit for about 5 minuets (to set), put the sticker in, mix glitter into the remaining resin, poor it in the mold, let sit for a day, then take it out!!! i know that if you blow a hair dryer at the resin after you have pored it into the mold it will get rid of most of the bubbles!!!!

Here is a better explanation...There is nothing wrong with cooling the resin, and it WILL increase the work time, though probably not significantly. The reaction will be exactly the same, only slower. HOWEVER, this will increase initial viscosity and you will have a ton of bubbles in your work. Long story short, its better to heat it and work quickly so your bubbles rise and pop before the resin sets.
