ADDIS ABABA - In November 2005, Meles Zenawi's ruling TPLF party was defeated at the polls. The defeat was overwhelming that all the 23 parliamentary seats in Addis were swept by the now-defunct CUD (Kinijit) party. Once he knew his overwhelming defeat, Meles Zenawi declared a state of emergency - as if a civil war has broken out or the country has come under foreign attack - and ordered all the powers to quell any protest. Thousands are believed to have been killed but only 193 were listed as victims of government brutality.
The mercenary regime declared war on the Ethiopian people, and five concentration camps were filled with 30,000 or more prisoners apiece. Thousands perished, and thousands left the country. To this very day, Ethiopia remains in the hand of a Stalinist mercenary regime.
Ethiopians around the world commemorate the November '05 Massacre with greater resolve to continue in the struggle against the mercenary regime in Addis Ababa.
