I remember this, unfortunately I believe that this event has been removed from the game. It was so fun doing this on RDM though, just cast phalanx, stoneskin, and blink before you get level-capped and your good to go! :P

yes, weapon determines skills. You get weapon skills for each weapon you use, as well as some job abilities for only 2 handed weapons. And to your second question, yes again. Taru have good mp, elvaan have good mnd, hume are all-rounders etc etc
