The Olympic torch hurriedly passed through San Francisco in the U.S. As it took a major detour to avoid thousands of protesters, one of the torch bearers whipped out a Tibetan flag from her sleeve.

The torch-bearer's name is Majora Carter. While the Olympic torch was passed to her, she took out a small pro-Tibet flag hidden in her sleeve. Chinese police and guards pulled her out of the run immediately, pushed her on the side of the road and took her flag.

Majora Carter says she feels terrible that her freedom of speech rights were seriously violated as an American citizen. But what she is most concerned about is Tibet and human rights issues in China.

[Majora Carter, Olympic Torch Bearer]:
"The problem is, if we were in Tibet or China today, I may have been killed or murdered for that. At less I was just pushed into the crowd here. I didn't experience being killed which makes me think how much we need to do to help those people who are suppressed in their own country."

Majora is from New York City and is an environmental protection advocate. The sponsors of Olympic Games invited her to be a torch-bearer. After that she took a close look into the situation in Tibet before she decided to bear the torch.

[Majora Carter, Olympic Torch Bearer]:
"After I found out that human rights persecution is happening in Tibet, I can't help but to hold up the flag for them as an American citizen devoted for freedom."

  • Chinese people are so racist and it shows. I used to respect the Chinese. Now I realize their mindset is like that of American Southerner 50 years ago. Tibet will be free because the spirit of the Tibetan people will never die.

  • yeah! follow all the rules a like an obedient chinese person who has never known free speech and is frightened of their own government. hooray for rules made by people who don't have to live by them.
