It went down pretty much the same way here, my friends are mostly really supportive and whatnot but my dad at first did not like the idea at all and told me to go looking for someone closer. I stayed my stubborn self and eventually he folded. He's still not too fond of the entire idea but he accepts it now which is all I ever wanted, really.
