The date was January 5, 1980 at Mel's Southshore Bowl, Alameda, CA for the $85,000 ARC Alameda Open. We will look at the first match of the new 80s decade between #5 Mark Roth and #4 Bill Staub. This match is most famous for Roth's conversion of the 7-10 split. What most people fail to realize that besides the conversion, it was a really great close match up until the end. I hope you enjoy it. Let's now go to Dave Diles and Nelson Burton Jr. for the call.

I remember this match, one of the first ones I remember. My bus driver knew I liked bowling and asked if I saw Roth make the conversion.

Thank you for uploading this. I used to roll the ball almost identical to Bill Straub when I was a sophomore in high school back in '75-'76 and somehow lost the "knack" and never really regained it. I'm probably too old now to tear the cover off the ball these days...
Way cool. Thanks again.
