John Wetton, the Family bass player, looks like he's really taking the piss, ha ha

This was so ahead of it's time so called DJ's like Tony Blackburn refused to play it. Seeing Family onTOTP's was a revelation, if not for Charlie's Twin Neck Gibson, awesome!! When they appeared again on TOTP's doing Burlesque, Roger had a laughing fit and wrecked the performance (deliberately), they never appeared on TOTP again.

Who of those today who call themselves popstars can put songs together like a Gilbert O'Sullivan? Answer: none - none at all.

@jonnybrowne Now if they'd still been playing album tracks in '76, the recent repeats would have been far more worth watching...

I remember watching this particular show at my Grandma's house as a callow youth and thinking this must be the best life to have, a performing muscian. When you see the history and see how many people featured here either didn't survive or had a wretched existence in their latter years such as Brian Connolly of Sweet maybe it wasn't all it was cracked up to be

I'm sure this wasn't the time they played three album tracks. That must have been MUCH later.
The show was well alive for many years after this - incl the punk, two tone, Stock Aitken Waterman eras etc.
At this time though there WERE many album-type singles in the charts.
I hated the likes of Jethro Tull myself. Much prefer the commercial pop.

@Feisty1967 - It was indeed the era of the album tracks feature (think it was two songs) although this appearance by the wonderful Family was because "In My Own Time" was a top ten single at the time. Tastes were broader then. The same year, bands like Jethro Tull, Atomic Rooster, Curved Air and Deep Purple all had big hit singles alongside the pop rubbish like Patridge Family and Middle of The Raod. I was 15 then, great times.....
GILBERT O'SULLIVAN A VERY UNDER ESTIMATED SINGER SONGWRITER ME THINKS......
