My ATV rolled down a hill and then off a 100' cliff! While climbing a snow covered hill, the tires on my ATV started to spin and I lost forward momentum before reaching the top. I tried applying my front brakes to keep me from rolling backwards downhill, but since I was in 4WD, that caused the rear wheels to also be braked and the ATV started to tip over backwards. I jumped off but tried keeping my hand on the brake and tried to steer it in a safe direction, but it got away from me and started tumbling down a hill, then fell off a 100' cliff into the bottom of Eagle Canyon. This occurred on trail 637 in the San Rafael Swell. It took the entire following day (and some great friends!) to recover the ATV.

  • did you get it running

  • @thealexbarsa: Nope, the insurance company totaled it out, and I got a new one a couple weeks later.

  • is that bike a rincon?

  • It was a 2008 Rancher 420 4x4.

  • fared pretty well for a 100 foot drop, did you fix it are was it salvaged

  • It had some pretty bad frame damage, so it was totaled out.

  • Bad idea with all that weight on the rear. Need to distribute the weight better. Expensive lesson.

  • way way too much weight on the back should have put some of that stuff in the front tray instead of all on the back. quad was way to small to handle all that weight.

  • I see that you've been beat up about the weight on the back. Sorry to continue the beating, but that is clearly the cause of the accident. No weight over the front tires meant less traction for getting up the hill and loss of front braking ability. In some of your other videos, I saw the same weight problem when you were riding with one of your kids on the back. Hope you've corrected the problem before one of you does get hurt.

Remember... have fun and keep the rubber side down.

  • If you're going to haul that much gear you need a side by side.

  • sorry about the atv

  • +10 for the landing haha ;)

  • yea all the xtra weight on the rear didnt help those are some heavy machines anyway,i think the brakes are to small for what u were doing also

  • @IceColdTexan I agreed. Having a heavy load within the rack section isnt bad but extended is worst because there is nothing to support and balance. I mostly travel heavy but all of my stuffs were withing the rack and it still a little dangerous when tackle the hill, bank, and unbalance trail.
