Images from the last Bonfire to burn on the Texas A&M campus - Nov. 24, 1998. Posted in memory of 12 who passed promoting the Spirit of Aggieland. Your Aggie family will never forget.
I miss the Bonfire! I remember it was as hot as the sun and I was standing so far away from it, one of the best memories for me as a kid. It is strange how the tradition for A&M is the 12th man and 12 people lost their lives in this tragedy. I am proud to say that it would have been 13 if it wasn't for my father who saved the life of the 13th aggie that day of the collapse. Sure do miss this tradition. Gig 'Em Ags!
@tealamanda Bonfire continues to burn and is built off campus by a student organization. It's not near as massive (standing at about 45 ft tall), and 70,000 people don't show up to watch it burn, but we still build it in rememberance of the 12 and to keep that burning flame alive.
24 days after my birth was the aggie bonfire collaps and 7 days ago I heard the best song of my life... We Bleed Marron me and my dad hug each other and cryed because it was so sad ive been a aggie all my life and I i was there when the aggies played the longhorns on thanksgiving night 2009 the next day my dad asked me what are you thankful for and I said the 12th man.REMEMBER 12 DIED AT THE AGGIE BONFIER AND YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE THAT AS A JOKE.
The off campus Bonfire has seemed from an outsider's prospective to be doing it right. I would assume those students have a good plan already put together.
12 years. never forget.
