The Bird of Prey was a variety of Romulan starship in use during the 2260s (not to be confused with the Klingon platform also known as the Bird of Prey). Ships of this class were built as a saucer-shaped primary hull with two nacelles attached by forward-angled pylons. The most distinctive feature, however, was a red and white bird in flight painted onto the bottom of the hull. According to background lore, the original script for the episode "Balance of Terror" called for the Romulans to have a ship that was a copy of the USS Enterprise, which the Romulans had built using Federation technology that they obtained through espionage. However, the producers ultimately decided to have the Romulan ship only vaguely resemble the Enterprise, as evidenced by the saucer-like hull and pylon-mounted cylindrical nacelles.

  • Cool, but the nacelles need to be green.

  • @wanderer711 Interesting, makes sense now

  • @DarthJac0bus When the Klingon BoP First came out the history of it was that it was part of continuing tech. trade agreements between the Klingons and Romulans. Origionally a Romulan Design, the Klingons helped to provide the tech to produce it, in return for a certain number of the ships. They however had production facilities ready to reverse engineer the ships to create both a Destroyer and Cruiser version of the Ships. That history, however has disappeared with the advent of TNG content.

  • Can't find it

  • "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock" named the Klingon ship a Bird of Prey, even though TOS had earlier established the BOP as a Romulan ship. The reason for the same name is that an early version of the STIII script had Kruge being an outlaw who stole a BOP from the Romulans. It was later decided to drop this plot line, in the interests of time and clarity (they thought it would confuse non-fans who saw the movie.) The idea of a "renegade" Klingon chasing Kirk was revived for "Star Trek V."

  • Go on Memory Alpha (the trek wiki) and you will find that romulans use both ships. The romulan bird-of-prey are, though, very different from their klingon counterparts.

  • That's awesome, ur pretty good at this vehicle creating, i could never do it though.

  • You are right and wrong at once. D'Deridex, which could be seen in TNG is a Warbird, but hiss, from TOS-era, is actualy called Bird of Prey
