The Teddy Powell orchestra had a relative short life from the late 30's to early 40's when lack of name recognition and a fire that destroyed the band's instruments caused their demise. However, if this swinging number was indictative of their ability the listening public was denied some great music

  • I think this is actually a live performance, not synched - pretty rare for that period of filmed Jazz.

  • @johnnycchops

I believe you're correct, the applause at the end would indicate it was live.

    Thanks for the look.

  • Pleased you enjoyed the video. I recently posted another Teddy Powell number with Peggy Mann, "Joltin' Joe".

  • Thanks for posting this. I have always loved Teddy Powells band. I think Lou Fromm the drummer in this video was really a great drummer for his band and artie shaws band unfortunately the drugs brought him down and that is why so many people have not really heard of him and the talent he really had, read the book Swing to bop by Ira Gitler and you will know more that situation, otherwise thanks again for posting this video.
