Because Hawaii was wrongly stolen from our Queen by greedy Americans. They imprisoned in her own palace, stole her throne, and forced her to change her name a forever live as a regular citizen and never take part in any governmental activities. Very tragic.

i'' make afeeble attempt to explain to the gent for america. the mainland is rich im resources a land of plenty and yet they came and saw hawaii and just had to have it. with the might of their military they took the sovereign nation of hawaiin jailed her queen and did a fine job of screwing up paradise. i hope that helps you to understand our anger.

I love Dennis. Just amazing! Can someone tell me about the protesting and why the anger over being apart of the US? I'm from the states and have been there many times, but don't really know the history of it. I have a place on Oahu

It is Rare indeed that a person can Catch the Spirit of a Nation in a Song ,and this is the Ultimate in that Genre.
I Can only Thank the Internet for Introducing me to the Song ,even Though I have Visited That Beautiful Country during my Merchant Navy Days.
It is a Pity that The Nations of the world do not takenotice of such strong Sentiment in Song.
