Genesis suck.

Eng 222 shoves train 844 towards Grand Central Terminal on Metro North's ex. Conrail, exx Penn Central, nee New York Central HUDSON LINE at milepost 31.00. Train 844 originates in Poughkeepsie, NY and makes local stops at New Hamburg, Beacon, Cold Spring, Garrison, Peekskill, Cortlandt and Croton-Harmon before running nonstop express to Harlem-125th St. and Grand Central Terminal. Passengers for all other stations must transfer at Croton Harmon to train #744 (for video 5 minutes later of 744 - see http://youtube.com/watch?v=d1PUiauZvdI).

The train can be heard blowing for the platforms at Ossining station which are 100' out of view to the left (south) of the camera. The train is crossing a small bridge over the Sing Sing Kill, which flows down to the Hudson River.

Shot at about 0910 AM @ MP-QC-31.00 - Ossining, NY on June 18, 2007.

Just minutes later I captured two other videos:

  • If the genesis are so bad then tell me how many times you have heard anything go wrong with them, they are more powerful than any FL9 built, they are twice as fast, in fact they can hit 110mph, they are more fuel efficient too. I am a huge fan of the FL9's don't get me wrong they are some of the most beautiful engines ever created, but you need to stay with the times and think from a business stand point. Ur not gonna give to the public a 50 year old engine that has power shortages.

  • @MrZkr123

What power shortages are you talking about?

The FL9s were capable of the same speeds, and they accelerated faster.

  • @MrZkr123

Yes, the were lower horsepower as they were designed to be. You really need to compare a pair of F's to a single Genny as far as HP goes. But reliability wise, WHEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED, they were more reliable. The difference is that once the first order for the P32s went out in the 90s they already had writing on the wall and retired them as they failed (more or less) instead of keeping up with maintenance.

  • Who makes that train?

  • @AdmiralArcher

the cars are made by Bombardier, the engine by General Electric.

  • they dont suck man

  • they've proved them selves - I'm just still not a fan of their lines and such and this MN scheme is just about the worst possible paint application on that carbody. I think the Genesis carbody looks frigin mint in the VIA paint....

  • They definetly don't suck they're the collest modern locomotives around.

  • I don't know if I agree with FL92002's statement entirely - I think the F59PHI more closely represents what he says, but the DE/DM was indeed GM/EMDs attempt to compete with the P32ACDM - and let just say its been a pretty miserable failure. Which is amazing considering the first really reliable dual mode the FL9 was indeed an EMD product....

  • DM/DE's are the aborted fetus of what GM/EMD/Super Steel had in mind to replace the F-Unit in terms of looks and features.
