Pokemon Red/Green and later Blue was messily coded in C, C++, and patched up in Assembly itself, written to be crammed into a tiny cartridge with an 8-bit CPU, 8 kB internal static RAM, and 8 kB video RAM.
The sound chip had just two wave generation channels, limited to quadrangular waves (square or pulse) and two channels which served to modify the output further.
These primitive tools breathed life and sound into an impossible world...

I never had the original games as a kid, and so I don't find them exactly nostalgic when I play them.
However, that doesn't derive from the fact that I herald this as the true classic generation that started it all. Generation 5 may be my current favourite, but I still love these ones as games, not nostalgic throwbacks.

It is this music that we will play during my funeral.

We're simply the best generation ever.
We've got the best television shows, we had a childhood in two millennia. AND We had the most epic game in history.
THUMBS UP FOR POKÉMON!

Turn to 240p for better quality.
Thumbs up if you were a 90's kid and the first generation of Pokemon Masters.
