@Vethorn It isn't pessimistic it is realistic. Even if DOMA is removed the republicans will come up with something similar if not worse. It's a matter of time before this world is destroyed by the hands of humanity.
@nicksum29 I understand. a UU church is about as nonreligious as you can get and still be a religion. He might actually go for it but the service would still not grant you two any of the legal rights of marriage.
@DancingRabbit52 I would love that. Alas, my partner is extremely anti-religion, and simply wants the legal rights without the religious paraphernalia.
@controverscialthings That is a pretty pessimistic view of things, though I can certainly understand why. I think that, if it does pass, Maryland will be very cozy as far as Marriage is concerned. I also think that in a few years time, we will see the Supreme Court strike down DOMA and basically remove the blocks to equal marriage everywhere.
@sarah9miller The govenment registration of marriage has been around for a long time, since before independence. No one has complained that through it the government is 'controling our lives' until gays asked for the same rights as the rest of us.
It doesn't whether it passes or not. The majority of america is homophobic and it always will be. When the republicans get in control again it'll go the exact opposite direction and become worse than ever for us.
