I proudly own this recording of Pagliacci. This recording featured two of the most exciting voices of the twentieth century, Franco Corelli and Tito Gobbi. As for Pavarotti, he loved listening to other singers. His Father's favorite was Gigli and was shocked at when Pavarotti said his favorite was Di Stefano. This recording was fantastic. Corelli was a fantastic Canio as was Mario Del Monaco.

as a tenor buff i will drop two names here of recent discoveries in the hope that these largely "unsung"heroes will get some of the recognition they deserve. franco tenelli, and marco zanini. consider this info my xmas gift to fellow tenor buffs. while we are naming favorites, i have 2: corelli (of course), and Giacomini! 70 plus and still going strong, with a recent vesti la giubba that is vocally and interpretively superior to those by men much younger, and much more famous! merry xmas!

@P1B1U1H1 i agree, atlantov is superb as well, and, like corelli, very charismatic, not just a voice. i remember reading years ago that Melocchi himself learned his method from a russian school. but who knows? some of them certainly have largevoices.

Corelli and Puccini reign. If there is a heaven I wonder if Franco could sing for Pucinni there? I wish we could know too what some of the great tenors think about the singing of each other. Like does Pavarotti think he is the best or does he admit to himself that Corelli has a more beautiful voice than he does. There can never be a voice more beautiful than the one of Franco in my opinion. His voice does make me estatic.
