Sanchez sounds great -- I know her only through YouTube and this is the best I've heard from her.

Thank you for your insight. Was wondering who we have, other than Fleming (and perhaps Netrebko in "Don Pasquale"), to look forward to these days. Will look out for Sanchez. I agree re Zajick, of course.

If one prefers two other singers interpreting this piece, that'd be rather a matter of taste. On the other hand, I'd be careful not to classify these two ladies as second tier singers. Just for the record, Sanchez is one of the most sought-after dramatic sopranos in Europe right now. Zajick is arguably the only true dramatic mezzo-soprano on stage nowadays. And they're both in their 'prime'.

I think they both sound pretty good. I think they're both very good second tier singers. Would I rather hear Sutherland as Norma or Troyanos or Larmore as Adalgisa? Sure. But I've heard this music sung waaaay worse then these to sing it. but I think when we get into someone being too heavy, then we get into questions about whether it was necessary for Deborah Voigt having to have a gastric bypass to get work.
