they're lucky everyone remain civilized. if they were elsewhere, they would have been injuried. the feeling locals have for the mainlanders are similar to the feelings that the mainlanders have for the japs. as visiting tourists, everyone is fine, but as political related visitors, everyone's got a problem. just the way it is. steer away from political topics, it doesn't lead to anything good, leave it to the government to do that.
