  • @chongwong There is an uprated gasket you can use (MLS or Multi Layer Steel) however this was not fitted as standard as far as I know. It was developed to combat the lack of drivers knowledge regarding safe use of the rev counter.... lol

You'll not find a problem with a ZR for you're daily driver. They're much better than people give them credit for. If you have far to travel, why not try a ZR Diesel? The L Series diesel engine is indestructable compared to the K and you can do alot with them.

  • @SirRicwin cheers, i've been thinking about geting one for the daily commute to and from work, and had remembered that a few of my friends 2 or 3 years ago (at the time 'boy racers) had blown the head gasket to smithereens, i did however here that in the later models they revised the head gasket design to make it more robust, any ideas, or am i again misguided?

  • @sherriepegasus Well thats a fine statement of total crap lol

    The ZS 180 uses a 2.5 litre V6 K series (hence KV6)

    The ZR 160 uses a 1.8 litre VVC K series engine (160bhp)

    The 25 GTi uses a similar 1.8 VVC K series (143bhp)

The KV6 is very different to the regular 4 pot K series engines. You can swap any of the K series engines around between any of the Rover 200/25 or MG ZR's (and larger cars). However it takes alot of effort to squeeze a KV6 into a ZR engine bay.

  • @chongwong You mean up until the end of MGR?...

The biggest problem with the K Series Headgasket is the person sat behind the wheel. Rev the engine high while its still cold, you'll ruin the headgasket in no time. They're certainly not boy racer friendly cars.

However letting the engine warm up before passing 2.5k-3k rpm and the headgasket will last a long time.

  • @charlieflint Lol true enough. Non-sunroof model ftw!

  • lol i have mg zr but my dream car is supra so sad.

  • @ckeith1987

The other problem was people just making up a load of faults, though I will give you crappy leaking sunroof seal leaks.

  • @evileaub

    Sell it then?

  • this rover is amazing, just saw this in person at the fast show an was the quickest thing there! not bad for a rover 200 ;)

  • I own a ZR and it really is a car you love to hate!
