I have Nikon D80 which according to my SB600 manual is compatible with CLS. My manual states "BL" will always appear together with "TTL" what does this mean?...does this mean if I set my camera on "spot" metering the SB600 LCD screen will display "TTL" and if camera set on "matrix" metering the SB600 LCD screen will still display "TTL" instead of TTL-BL? But even though the SB LCD screen does not show "TTL-BL" as long as the camera is set to "matrix" metering the SB is operating as "TTL-BL"?

Darn! I have been using ittl all this time and I didnt know abot the spot and matrix use with the flash.

What a fantastic explanation of the iTTL and how to use it. Thank you so much.
You have a great website too, but if I can just suggest you include a search button to your site it would be much easier to navigate... thanks again.
i have my nikon d3100 and i bought sb 600 how can i set it manually ?

@1234gulp The SB600 will not work wirelessly (off camera) with the D3100. Still, good results are available with the flash mounted on the hot shoe and bounced of ceilings and walls. Holding down the zoom and "-" keys at the same time for about 3 seconds will allow you to switch between manual and iTTL. Although in your application with the SB600 on camera I'd rather shoot in iTTL.

how come when i press the FV lock in my d90 it wont fire...?
noorhma 1 year ago
@noorhma The D90 does allow you to program what happens when the FV lock button is pushed. You'll want to check your "controls" settings to ensure that the button is programmed to "FV lock."

Awesome video and some great tips!
I have a nikon d60, will the sb600 work as meant to? As in iTTL etc..

@XXB4XX - Yes the SB600 will work in both iTTL and iTTL BL on your Nikon D60's hotshoe. I don't believe that the D60 has commander mode to use your SB600 off camera.
