MoDOT has applied for nearly $1 billion in federal railroad funds that have recently become available. The application includes a two-phase proposal. The first phase is for immediate upgrades to improve speeds and reliability along the existing rail lines between St. Louis and Kansas City. The second phase would provide for design, engineering and preparation for building a separate, dedicated high-speed line between the two cities. The immediate upgrades would create more than 1,300 jobs in Missouri over the next few years.
State and local officials gathered last week to celebrate the completion of the pedestrian/bicycle attachment on the Missouri River Bridge in Jefferson City. The new bridge attachment is eight feet wide and includes two look-out points with a view of the Missouri State Capitol. A ramp structure on the north side of the river allows access to the Katy Trail. The attachment will make travel across the bridge safer, while enhancing tourism in Missouri's capital city and along the Katy Trail.
