Buoy is an English word and is pronounced Boy in the homeland and in my english dictionary. Americans pronounce it booie for some reason. But i think you should accept that that is an americanisation. I know Bill Bryson has problems with american pronunciation of ENGLISH words but it shouldnt be a problem really.
@Minkymoo222 Yeah try telling that to the rest of the English speaking world that pronounces it the same way as Terry genius. You're one of those guys that likes to be different aren't you? By the way the dictionary does pronounce it that way:
buoy |ˈboō-ē; boi|
noun
an anchored float serving as a navigation mark, to show reefs or other hazards, or for mooring.
@HonoreT35: I don’t need to check my dictionary pal, you just need to uncross your eyes and read what is written! The word is spelt Buoy but pronounced Boy. Check the dictionary for the pronunciation!
Buoy comes from Buoyant or Buoyancy – pronounced boi-an-see
There is CERTAINLY no ‘e’ sound so I don’t know what you are talking about! Who ever heard of a boo-eee or boo-eee-ancy aid? What a joker.
@Minkymoo222 The hell are you talking about? he said it fine boo-ee. check the dictionary before you insult others on their own work that you have contributed nothing to.
@aboled really?I am glad to hear that.

Boo-e! Lol
Just another Americanism. Don't they just love trashing the ENGLISH language, and thinking it's the only way?! ENGLISH = from ENGLAND. Nuff said!
