The world's largest man-made marina. In 2003, the 5 square kilometers of this 'new city' was all desert and wilderness. In 2008, it's all skyscrapers.
Walking around the place isn't like a ghost town; it's more of a ghost city. The vast majority of the city is still under construction (block after block after block of skyscrapers). Although enough has been completed to make it look nearly finished, a lot of the businesses and residents haven't moved in yet. So what you have is an entire city of empty skyscrapers.
It's so surreal, since the streets are mostly deserted and the few people walking around the city's streets now are only construction workers, who are all Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese, Bangledeshi, etc. With this 1 minute video there you can't even see another person within view.
Dubai Marina is also the most densely constructed, least populated area in the world. It's pretty sweet to walk around at night when you're alone and the whole place is deserted, and you're surrounded by dark, empty skyscrapers as far as you can see.
If you build it, will we come?
