@FHomeBrew I've just come up with something. It may be the "~imasu" or "~imashou" sufix of japanese verbs that translates to this. Similarly, there's not really a good translation from the "to verb" in English to "werkwoord" in Dutch, where the "to" either gets ill-translated or not translated at all.
Anyway, the usage of "~imasu" seems to be similar to that of the "Let's" in Japanese. (at least, how I perceive this).

It's almost as if "Let's" is something translated directly from japanese. Either that, or japanese people have some common (but peculiar) meaning ascribed to it. What do they mean when they say "Let's"? I may be way off here though. If I'm right, could someone maybe enlighten me?

let's make a mental note that despite how much japanglish gets made fun of, and the stereotypes that exist, some japanese people do learn english and speak it rather well.
