Have a Very Merry Squidgemas!
Despite finishing her Christmas film in July, Ange Palethorpe actually has great timing. Squidge is her latest short film, one to spread some festive cheer.
Ange said of working on the project - Squidge grew from a thirty second piece to a massive 1 minute 50 seconds. After many years working on commercials, it was bliss to be able to let the action run, and build up both the drama and the final punch line. We are usually given 36 frames for a character to do something, so just having fun experimenting with the timings felt like a holiday.
Squidge was created in Maya, and finished in After Effects, with sound cut in Adobe Premiere. Ange used an M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 to record original sound effects and Foley, in between waiting for aeroplanes to pass over - a bedroom in South West London is not an ideal recording studio. Although again, the freedom to spend time choosing the right effects was great, as on the few occasions we get to do our own sound on a commercial, time is always so short.
