G

ladwyne was settled in 1682 by Welsh Quakers. Formerly known as "Merion Square", Gladwyne was given its new name in 1891 imitating the stylish Welsh names of adjoining towns... The Merion Square Hotel, now the Old Guard House Inn, is said to have been frequented by colonial troops during the Revolution. In 1798 this building, served as the general store, the village post office and a hardware store. In the 1800's The Delaware Market House was a general store known as Davis'. The small house next to the Gladwyne Library was a grocery store and tea room. At the corner of Youngsford Road and Conshohocken State Road sits the home of "Hap Arnold", lifetime Gladwyne resident, the home was built in the 1800's.

Today, Gladwyne is one of the wealthiest towns in America. Beautiful estates and unique custom homes are nestled throughout the village. Hiking and equestrian trails, public tennis courts, baseball fields, parks, streams and the Schuylkill River all add to a superior quality of life that is found in Gladwyne.
