Philly's Pretzel ride leaves from the Philadelphia Museum of Art at about 11:30PM every Tuesday night. Why, you might ask? The answer is that this is when the freshest pretzels can be obtained. The ride goes to 9th and Washington where hungry riders can purchase the preservative-laden salty snacks hot out of the pretzel machine at 12:00 midnight. Come on out and join in. It's like a holiday that happens every week.
This video is a compilation of two Pretzel rides this winter. Most of the footage is from the warmest day this past February, which was very unseasonable. Someone was playing a very moody horn on the Art Museum steps while the assembled throng played a drunken game of foot down. Only one person was bitten by a dog at this event. The second ride included a knife fight, though I'm told that this was very unusual, and the assailant was quickly disarmed by his friends.
Philly--it's cooler than you think. A lazy ride in the dark to obtain the best junk food. Some cities have tofurky, but we have pretzels and 40s.
You crazy Philly folk.
