Blackhawk at TYQ Indy Exec Airport for Scout Troop 123 MVI_0036.avi

Background on 3-15-2010 Indy Exec has 4 ramps the best available in the Indianapolis area. Our Exec Ramp (#1) is covered and sheltered on the east and west, the north ramp (#2) is very large and sheltered on all four sides by hangars, the #3 ramp is shelter on two sides and south ramp (#4) is the largest and not surrounded by any hangars. In my discussion two weeks earlier with the Blackhawk pilot he suggested hed prefer the south ramp and I agreed, thus I put a memo out to that effect which was poor management on my part, by arrival time the memo was long forgotten. It was cold and windy thus our lineman felt the Blackhawk should land on the north because it was most sheltered for the scouts to see. If you watch the video the pilot banks to the south a couple of times indicating he rather land on the south ramp. He was a great sport he took the 3rd signal from the lineman, took a deep breath swallowed and hovered over a $25 million L-45 and set down in front of a $3 million hangar. The video was interrupted when the Blackhawk got overhead when got in ground effect the rotor wash blew the camera out of my hands. I expected this as Ive been around a number of Bell & Euro copters; however a Blackhawk is quite different. It landed safely which is the next video after the rotor was in zero thrust, the ops officer get out chocks the wheel looks the area over and then oks the shutdown sequence. On board were a training pilot, instructor pilot, ops officer, and mechanic all were 20something. Our Indiana National Air Guard out of Shelbyville is very professional and we were proud to have them visit Indy Exec for Scout troop 123.
