In 1959 Andre Previn recorded a jazz album for MGM Records with piano accompanied by a string orchestra conducted by David Rose. The album was titled Secret Songs for Young Lovers and featured the hit single, "Like Young." This was the first of several very fine recordings of this type on the MGM and Columbia labels.

I bought the album in the 60s and still listen to it on my Ipod. A true jazz classic.

Betcha didn't know that he was born Andreas Ludwig Priwin in Germany. Saw him conduct Rachmaninoff's Second in California. Quite a treat.

Wonderful! I had the great priviledge of seeing Mr. Previn perform live in St. Louis a few years ago. I'll never forget it.

Always loved the lush, ethereal David Rose string arrangement. This was the first song I played drums on in front of a live audience, back in 1961.

Jonas, if you know anything similar to those to pieces, please let me know! I have a CD 'Oscar Peterson and Nelson Riddle' which is great, but doesn't have that sort of 'haunting' vibe that these two songs have.

Yes, yes and yes. Both amazingly moody songs that're like little else out there.

There's something so special about this and 'Theme from Route 66' by Nelson Riddle! They both have that sort of eerie but beautiful shimmering quality with the strings combined with jazz piano.
