In 1959 Andre Previn recorded a jazz album for MGM Records with piano accompanied by a string orchestra conducted by David Rose. The album was titled Secret Songs for Young Lovers and featured the hit single, "Like Young." This was the first of several very fine recordings of this type on the MGM and Columbia labels.

  • I bought the album in the 60s and still listen to it on my Ipod. A true jazz classic.

  • @ecardon1 The album is now available on CD.

  • Betcha didn't know that he was born Andreas Ludwig Priwin in Germany. Saw him conduct Rachmaninoff's Second in California. Quite a treat.

  • @PacRimJim I knew, as well that it was in Berlin in 1929.

  • I've been looking for this for 52 years!

  • @BINKIE2000 I'm glad that you finally found it!

  • what a great piece of piano, close your eyes and go wherever your mind wants to take you, bet it brings a smile to your face. This song is a true true clasic.

  • This will be played as long as the HOMO SAPIENS species

    exists on the planet.

  • When I was 13 at my dance recital, the jazz girls danced to this and I thought in my adolescent mind, What is this song?? This piece redefined my taste in music, namely good jazz, ever since. It is so fabulous.

  • This recording is as fresh as a daisy. Previn is a master of his craft. The complete musician and almost unfairly talented.

  • @ecardon1 Me, too!!:)

  • I was 11when l first this I'm 63 now .I love this sound of Andre !

  • "Like Young" is the perfect mix of orchestra and jazz. The first time I heard it, I was 11 years old. I am now 63 and love it as much as the first time, if not more.

  • This is the classic version by Rose on Fred Astaire's first TV special.
