I believe the largest recorded Lion, weighed in at around 700lbs, I believe that was in the wild too. In captivity, I don't know.I am not sure. The Largest recorded Brown Bear was 14 ft tall, and 2500lbs...I haven't see a picture of either.I seen a 12.5ft,1500lb Brown Bear..Size doesn't determine the dominance of a species though. In the film Eternal Enemies, the smaller Male Lion, is much more bolder, they give him the title "The Hyena Killer", he is the one often patroling the territory..

The Lions in South Africa have an average weight of about 430 lbs and exceed 500 lbs more consistently than the Lions in East & West Africa. For example, the largest wild African Lion on record was from the region of Transvaal (in South Africa) and weighed a massive 690 lbs. Another male weighed in at 585 lbs in South Africa (I don't know from what region) & another weighed 553 lbs (from Transvaal).

The Lions in East & West Africa average around 380 to 400 lbs; though a 600 lb. male in Mount Kenya was killed about 75 years ago.

@kokoracha100 900 pounds is absurd...those are most probably ligers......however barbary lion did weigh equal to siberian tigers but they are now extinct in the wild

i seen vids of lions who weigh 900 pounds man..420 pounds my ass thats just very average maybe younger male lions..when they get older they weigh more.....i seen male lions who weigh more than seberian tigers and are taller..search the vids they on here..

jimmychuang, National Geographic is longly wrong. They never tell about the largest African subspecies... and sixes and weights by those subspecies, who are the very most of male lions in the world. They hate lions and they are tigerfans. The are going too far lying on that item and taking advantage of his prestige. More that 11 experts contradict them, and all they are not wrong, that's sure. Only a subnormal could believe 191 kg as most.

Even "Walker's Mammals of the World" claims male lions weights for adult lions range between 150250 kg.
