My Hyperbolic Crochet Animation - beginning to end, has been quite popular. So, I thought I'd video a Hyperbolic Pseudosphere being crocheted from first stitch to last, then speeding it up so the viewer could see one being created from beginning to end.
The original footage totaled 152 minutes and 32 seconds (filmed over a couple of days!), so you can enjoy the process in a fraction of the time! (time-lapse)
I hope you enjoy this video.

  • This looks like so much fun!! I SO want to make one, but I have no idea how... maybe you could tell on your blog?

  • @joy4569 Hi there! - Sorry for taking a while to reply to your comment. I have a list of items waiting to be made into tutorials, and this is definitely one of them. I try to go on demand, this may well be the next one to have a tutorial, so stay tuned, and your feedback is greatly appreciated, cheers!!

  • Thats cool how long did it take you to do that and not the speeded version of 5:20

  • @Boudica999 That's right - 152 minutes!!! I had about 4 breaks during filming...whew!!

  • my geometry class is doing this for this really cool project. i'm doing a circle-shaped coral (like this one i think). but it looks more like a baby sock. :/ or one of those "tube" corals. i don't know how to "increase" the stitches.

  • @falalaxfearless Hi there! Thanks for your comment. That's so great that you are doing this in school, it must be fun to learn about! You increase at a constant rate. The crochet is one spiral, as long as you choose a rate of increase (Like 1 in 2 or 1 in 3) and don't change, you will create a hyperbolic form. So start with a couple of stitches, then increase (say 1 in 3) like this: single - single - 2 into one - single - single - 2 into one - and repeat. It will start to crenellate after a bit.
