@Pastorius333 if only Jaco hadnt copied charlie mingus :) lol
I am Jaco fan but credit where its due Bunny is great and always has been.

Clearly you are a Brunel fan ;)
I can tell you right away that Jaco didn't pick up anything from Brunel. Jaco's style was already fully formed in 1974, and the concept he became known for was already there as early as 1972. I'm not saying that Brunel wasn't a good bass player before Jaco released his 1st album. I'm saying that he added a lot of stuff to his repertoire that wasn't there before( fretless bass, harmonics, virtuoso solos etc.). Stuff that he copied from Jaco.

@Pastorius333 Clearly you are a pastorous fan and so am i but lets be serious here, no one just starts playing like Jaco overnight and both became recognised "worldwide" for their respective talents in 1976 even though both had played elsewhere before. Chances are they picked up stuff frome each other. They were both jazz influenced and both ended up playing jazz rock and they travelled in the same musical circles. the real question is do you need to be french to be that good :)

Of course I'm serious. Brunel didn't start playing fretless bass, staccato grooves, melodic harmonics or advanced solos before Jaco had hit the scene like a tsunami wave. So yes, I'd say that Brunel got his whole concept from Jaco. Brunel is still a good player of course, but he's far from being an innovator.

@Pastorius333 I would include pastorious, clark, bruce and entwhistle with bunny not to mention a few others who played for the likes of ornette coleman and frank zappa. btw you are not seroiusly suggesting bunny copied stan and jaco? :) lol

Obnoxious tone indeed.

Bunny basically lifted his style from Jaco and Stanley Clarke. I wouldn't call that inventing. Would you?
-
clearly, going by the comments made here some of you nuggets have no idea who bunny is. This guy and a few others of his generation practically invented modern bass techniques. you should check out Bunny and Stanley Clark jamming on the brunel bass. Wish i could afford one.
