Topic: A bit about me.

A video message for a friend, but for others too, in Koine / Classical Greek with a semi reconstructed-first-century accent. I'm speaking from my head, rather than reading a script.

  • I like what you're trying to do; good job! A friendly tip: watch your accents, καλῶς, ἐγώ, ποιῶ, ἐάν, ἔλεγόν σοι, σήμερον, ἑλληνικήν, κλπ.

You go back and forth between a Greek pronunciation and an Erasmian one. The Greek one is much better for many reasons and you sound more natural when you use it.

Some vocab: "university" is τὸ πανεπιστήμιον and "internet" is τὸ διαδίκτυον. ...Keep up the good work!

  • @Aeschylus Thanks for the vocab. I know these, but just forgot them at the time. I wasn't using notes and when you're speaking in another language, you just have to communicate, you can't go dictionary up a word. I'll re-learn them tho to ensure they are in my active memory.

My accents do need some work. All in good time tho. To be fair, I'm one of only a few on Youtube doing this and don't claim proficiency. All the best.

  • Maresi para poli to video. Poli kali douleia.

  • @parrhasius Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated and glad you could understand it. I've found I can read and understand some modern Greek and when I communicate with my Greek friend in Ancient Greek he understands me just about too.

    Thanks again.

  • Hello Mark as a speaker of modern Greek and having an informal interest in Ancient Greek I could understand the main gist of what you were saying.

it is really good t o see young people in England having such an interest in Greek..

Just as English is the most important and progressive language in the world today , Greek used to have that status. Keep it up!
