Cat Massage Benefits - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.

Hello, may name is Dr. Carolyn Quagliata. I am the owner and founder of City Pet Doctor, New York City's premier house call vet service. My clients are always asking me what they can do at home to make their cat feel good. Massage is an easy technique that anyone can do at home. The first thing you want to do is let your cat know that you are about to touch them. You never want to touch their head first so, let them smell your hand. And then, slowly rub their back in a constant repetitive motion. The main thing you want to do is use slow repetitive movements. That makes the cat feel very comfortable. Also, be aware of certain areas on the cat's body that they like to be touched. A lot of cats love to be scratched under their chin. So, that would be the first place to start.

Some cats also like to be massaged on their back so, that would be another great place to rub. Slow, repetitive movements. You can also look for positive feedback. Sometimes, cats will start to purr during a massage. Sometimes, they will lift their chin to let you know that they want you to scratch their chin more and sometimes, they will actually start grooming themselves or actually fall asleep or close their eyes. So really, massaging cats is a really easy thing for people to do at home and it is a great way to bond with your cat.

  • I just was massaging my cat's biceps with my thumbs and he just melted and fell asleep in about 30 seconds, which led me to look up videos about cat massages :)

  • My cat Morris loves it. n.n
