On April 28, 2009 three time Grammy award winner Narada Michael Walden screened songs for West Coast Songwriters members. Narada is a drummer, composer, songwriter, arranger, producer, vocalist and instrumentalist. As a drummer, he has played with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Tommy Bolin, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Alphonso Johnson, Robert Fripp, and has recorded hundreds of album sessions. His songwriting credits include such artists as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, George Michael, Steve Winwood, Elton John, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Shanice Wilson, Sting and Yolanda Adams (see http://www.naradamichaelwalden.com/ for more details). Narada has also released 11 solo albums and has also been a studio owner in the Bay Area for over 20 years, currently operating Tarpan Studios in San Rafael (http://www.tarpanstudios.com).
West Coast Songwriters (http://westcoastsongwriters.org), a nonprofit organization founded 30 years ago, is one of the most active music associations in the USA. WCS sponsors more than 15 events per month throughout the West Coast as well as an annual International Song Contest.
