Paul Simon - Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes

Lyrics:

(a-wa) O kodwa u zo-nge li-sa namhlange
(a-wa a-wa) Si-bona kwenze ka kanjani
(a-wa a-wa) Amanto mbazane ayeza
She's a rich girl
She don't try to hide it,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,

He's a poor boy,
Empty as a pocket
Empty as a pocket with nothing to lose
Sing Ta na na
Ta na na na
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
ta na na
Ta na na na
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,

(Pause)

People say she's crazy
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
Well that's one way to lose these
Walking blues,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,

She was physically forgotten
but then she, slipped into my pocket
With my car keys,
She said you've taken me for granted
Because I please you
Wearing these dia-monds,

And I could say Oo oo oo,
As if everybody knows
What I'm talking about,
As if everybody here would know
Exactly what I was talking about,
Talking about diamonds on the soles of her shoes,

(Pause)

She makes the sign of a teaspoon
He makes the sign of a wave,
The poor boy changes clothes
And puts on after-shave,
To compensate for his ordinary shoes,

And she said honey take me dancing
But they ended up by sleeping
In a doorway,
By the bodegas and the lights on
Upper Broadway,
Wearing diamonds on the soles of their shoes,

And I could say Oo oo oo
and if everybody here would know
What I was talking about
I mean everybody here would know exactly
What I was talking about
Talking about diamonds,

(Pause)

People say I'm crazy
I got diamonds on the soles of my shoes yeah,
Well that's one way to lose
These walking blues,
diamonds on the soles of my shoes,

ta na na na
ta na na na na
ta na na na
ta na na na na
(to finish)

  • The Graceland album was the turning point for Paul Simon. Africa's influence upon his music is still seen today. Bravo for Paul

  • If anyone can be classified as a complete GENIUS, it's this man.

  • I've heard this song, many times before, LOVED It - but did Not Know, it was Paul Simon. In fact I've even hummed along to most of his his but was ignorant of the artist. Well, NOW I Know - he's SUPERB!

  • Relax song

  • just happened upon this for the first time..definitely not my preferred style of music, but I like the lyrics.

  • BRILLIANT!!! i could listen to this 1000 years from now and it will still sound incredible!

  • At the time Graceland came out they said it was his masterpiece. It introduced African melodies to western music. Western music is still influenced by it. .

  • Agree and disagree, Paul Simon is a GENIUS, but he was a genius long before Graceland. Pretty much everything Simon and Garfunkel put out was all Paul Simon, Garfunkel was really good at harmonizing.

  • Yes

  • @Tarrant1976 lol, money was different then, my computer was 400 pounds, back when a pound was far more than a dollar...not so now.
