Silk Handkerchiefs 5:
Dreams

Dreams
I dreamt about you last night
Last night...
...I had the funniest dream
In my dreams
In your dreams!
I had dreams
Like anyone else
Didn't know
(or didn't want to know)
Those dreams were of wealth
Now that's all gone
Flushed down't shitter
Howzat, LBW, walk of shame for the big hitter
If I close my eyes
Pretend I'm not here
Pretend! Pretend!
That I'm not disposable
That I don't live in fear
But soon as I open my eyes
Reality arrives
And it's back to life
Life! Life!
I had it once
A wealth of possibility
A future so bright
Blinded, walking
Straight into night
And that's where I am
Where I will be laid to rest
On a bed of pine needles
On a bed of black treacle
On a bed of sand bags
On a bed of broken dads
On a bed of busted springs
On a bed of feathers fallen from angel wings
On a bed of eternity's Dear Johns
On a bed of blood spilt, tears spent for my wrongs
On a bed of a midnight lake
The dreams of my past, clasped to my feet, to hold down this dead weight
