  • Took your advice and raised hogs using the methods you show here with just a few modifications. After years of confinement rearing it was a real paradigm shift. Word got around and sold them for a fair return. My whole outlook on hog raising has changed after forest ranging. Healthy premium, acorn fed pork . Thanks for the videos and the inspiration.

  • @ziggymainer Thanks for the kinds words! Great to hear! I'm now living in Maine--Midcoast--BTW....

  • are you allowed to sell pork to the public if slaughtered on farm?

  • Technically, no you cannot slaughter on the farm and sell to the public. The trick is to use a custom slaughter operation and presell the pigs on the hoof by whole or half. Then the customers just give the custom butcher their order for "their" pork.

The other way is to presell the pork on the hoof & then charge to teach the person buying it how to slaughter their own animal & process it. You need facilities for this, & proper training & must check with the laws in your area...yada yada ya....

  • Thanks for this, great information for possible future projects!

  • You said you were making about $3,000 on the pigs that year. How many pigs did you have? Also how many acres of land were you working?

  • thanks for that, same in UK.

    Like your vids.

  • great vids...

about keeping the pigs in the woods....

do you have to bury the fence or electrify it to keep them in? i'd like to keep a few sows, but am worried about them rooting under the fence into my neighbors.

    thanks again.

  • Extremely informative. I have enjoyed your videos. Thanks.
