No, not Go-Motion. The first major theatrical go-motion was on The Empire Strikes Back, and later on the dragons in Dragonslayer, for major sequences including the walkers. For 2001, these were models photographed as still transparencies and then animated on an Oxberry animation stand, rephotographed in unsqueezed 70mm. They did use some basic mechanical motion repeating rigs on 2001.

yeah, i thought this woulda predated gomotion by at least 10 years. wikipedia says it was created for Empire Strikes Back!
