For 2001, these were models photographed as still transparencies and then animated on an Oxberry animation stand, rephotographed in unsqueezed 70mm. They did use some basic mechanical motion repeating rigs on 2001.
2001 used rudimentary motion control. Go-motion is basically computer-assisted motor-driven stop-motion.
