As much as I love all the thrash greats like King, Hanneman, Hetfield, Mustaine, etc., I think that in the 80's Victor Griffin had an overall heavier sound in the big sense. Whereas thrash is about speed and pulverization, he was more about a wall of crushing riffage that grabbed you by the throat.
