  • it has always smoked bad on start up

give it a run down the road and it will clear after a couple of miles

i think its over fueling on tick over you get raw fuel in the exhaust

will have it started over xmas i will take a new video of the raw fuel leaking from exhaust

  • its a 120 thanks for the info. the origial engine had trouble with the block, a big hole in it. lol

  • It was about -4c was going to stick a bit of heat down the air intake

  • Can we have a video of Old Pete starting it with the handle now please! ;-)

  • I'm sure the smell is heavenly, but positively not good for you. But there's nothing like a diesel smell on a start up. Just don't inhale!

  • Thank god you didn't have to use the starting handle.

We've a few old vehicles up in the yard, and that's a common sound in our yard - cranking over Leyland, Perkins, Bedford and Gardner engines in old lorries and buses. Once you aren't overheating the starter there's no harm in it. A bit of hot air down the air in take (hair dryer or heat gun) will ease the pain and stop her from becoming a drug addict!

  • i wouldnt bother about the smoke injectors might be overfueling slightly but after a run will be fine

  • good old aki take there time but usualy the start

  • Holy cow! She's a smokey one aint she!

  • - 4 that's more than impressive! She looks smashing too. Thank you

  • so you primed it before starting, did you prime it too much that its already flooding, so didnt fire up straight away?

  • Don't burn out the starter by cranking too long.
