This is video of the huge hail core of storm that hit the north side of Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon, May 16, 2010. The video was shot from Britton Road between Sara and Mustang Road looking north as the storm was passing Piedmont. The video doesn't do justice to the blue/green appearance of the hail core. If you listen closely you can hear the hail roar. Shortly after this video was made the storm entered Oklahoma City and caused millions of dollars worth of damage.

There are other good videos here on YouTube that were shot from inside the hail storm. This video is intended only to show the massive size of the hail core as it approached the City, not the individual hail stones or the damage they caused.

A few sharp eyed individuals have spotted something some are calling a UFO at 1:08 moving very fast from roughly the center of the video to the right. I believe the object is an insect.

Some of the aftermath of this hail storm can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZwCX0X44AU

  • do you capture in police car or where?

  • @100maanko This video was shot from my personal car.

  • What repeater are you guys on?

  • @Rctrilogy That's WX5OKC on 145.410 mhz.

  • hello from greece,

here in my city, many people are farmers and when the hail comes, are picking up aeroplanes to interval the clouds. so never have hail the last years. why they did not do the same? is the storm so big and the planes can not fly?

  • @helenaki8 There have been attempts to "seed" clouds to help make rain but I'm not aware of any efforts to try and stop hail. Many wheat farmers have had their crops damaged by hail this year.

  • @multivortex Birds or insects, all heading away from the storm. Sometimes they're smarter than we are!

  • That green look scares me. I just studied weather a few years ago, that cloud means "Get Shelter! QUICK! HURRY!!!" Be warned.

  • I've never been through a storm like this, I don't live in a very bad storm place. Its rare to see a storm at my place.

  • :note to self: NEVER LIVE IN OK.
