Bo pocked Steve's eye out b/c he caught him in bed w/his girlfriend Britta.
They were very young when they both were in the Merchant Marines the time Bo took Steve's eye out.
Years go by, Patch (Steve) goes to Salem for revenage on Bo, he's all bad boy, get's hired by Victor to spy on Kayla in Cleveland & the rest is history.
S&K was the best & hottest couple storylines back in the mid-80's.

It is true that "some" of the fans (not me) didn't like him without the patch, so instead of him just taking out the artificial eye and wearing the patch, the writers decided to be barbaric and have him get into a fight during the crappy Marina storyline and while Steve was fighting Victor Kiriakis' henchmen to keep the key, he got socked in the eye which damaged the eye socket therefore he had to wear the patch again because Marcus could not surgically repair the eye socket.

I'm assuming you mean the bandage? Steve had eye surgery and was without a patch for awhile. Fans didn't like it so a few months later poor Steve got stabbed in the eye again. This is when it was still healing.
